Most pop music heard on pop stations today sucks because the sound is too perfect. It's like technology has gotten too good and the sound feels crisp and clear but somehow artificial and lifeless. I liked it better back in the 60s and 70s when sound quality was poorer. Thomas told me that the Zeppelin drummer revolutionized drumming sound when he quit micing the drums like his predecessors. But sometimes those muffled drums sounded good. Some might say that this new sound is more natural, but that's not true. Live music takes on a different sound in whatever venue you're in, and unless you like listening to music in a soundproof, acoustically-optimized recording studio, what you here on the radio isn't going to sound good.
